The Endless Scroll, The Lost Hour

It’s late. Again. I keep telling myself I’ll just finish *one* episode. Just one. But it's like…like the screen just keeps pulling you in, right? You start scrolling, and suddenly, an hour’s gone. And you're not even really *watching* anything, you know? Just…swiping.

The thing is, you don't *feel* it, not really. You don't feel the tiredness creeping in, the way your eyes are getting dry, the little aches in your neck. You just keep scrolling. It’s like your brain is saying, "Just a little bit more," and you’re letting it. You’re giving it that little bit more, and then another, and before you know it…

You’re staring at the ceiling, trying to remember what you were even doing before you started. It's funny, isn't it? You spend all this time, all this *effort*, trying to get somewhere, to do something important, and you end up just…staring at a rectangle.

I’ve noticed this with the kids, too. Sometimes they’ll be building something amazing, really focused, and then…bam. Suddenly they're lost in a game on their tablets. It's the same pull, I think. The thing that catches your attention, that just keeps you going, even when you don’t really want to.

It’s not that they’re *bad* kids, you know? They’re just…caught. Caught in this loop of instant gratification. And it makes me think about how we all fall into these patterns. Habits, I guess you call ‘em.

And then you wake up the next day, and you're already feeling it. That sluggishness, that brain fog. Like you didn't even get a proper night’s sleep. And you tell yourself you’ll change, you’ll do something different. You'll put down the phone.

But it’s a hard thing to break, isn’t it? Like trying to hold onto sand. You grasp for it, and it slips through your fingers. You think you’ll be different this time, but you’re not.

I’m not saying it’s all bad, of course. There's some good stuff out there. But you gotta be mindful, you know? Gotta watch yourself. Gotta realize when you’re just…spinning your wheels.
